Antique and beautifull ex voto, representing the sacred heart, topped by a flame, ex voto, miracle. (late xix century). Rare. Measures 2.8 x 1.8 inches (7 x 4.5 cm)material cooper (silver plated)very beautifull.Pertaining to old collection of ex votos (copper, bronze, silver plated, silver 800 and sterling silver 925). In 1879 peru started the war against chile, the one htat caused a big economical crisis in the whole country that last until 1890 approximately. The items that before were made of pure silver at that time they were amde of copper, bronze and low silver. These objects belong to this period, because gold and silver were designated to expenses from the war o contributions to the war. Antico ex voot rame aregentato. It is given in fulfillmetn of a vow (hence the latin term, short for ex voto suscepto, from the vow made) or in gratitude or devotion. Ex-votos are placed in a church or chaple where the worshipper seeks grace or wishes to give thanks. These religious items which are referred to either milagro, miracle in spanish or ex voto in latin is an image offered to a deity or a saint in the form of a prayer or wish, and in thanks for desires or wishes fulfilled. The tradition of posing ex-voto is still alive, particularly in the naples area and all of southern italy, where these objects are manufactured, often with artistic quality.
