Descriptionthis is a mid19th century medallion reliquary bearing a documented relic of saint paul of the cross. The label reads xe praecordii s. Pauli a cru. An internet search produced a variety of defiintions of ex praecordii we'll leave it to our bidders to determine the exact meaning. The theca or case is fo silver-colored metal with a decorated outer edge. It measures just over an inch in height, not including the ring for hanging. The relic is set on a paper loznege which in turn is on a field of burgundy fabric. The back of the theca bears an image of teh cross.
Strings and red wax seal are in place, nitact and in excellent condition. The accompanying authentic or document was issued in 1865 by the praepositus generalis of the passionist order. The description of teh relic (ex praecordiis) and of the theca perfectly describe the relic and the reliquary. The seal on the authentic matches that of the red wax seal of the reliquary. There is one anomaly whereas the authentic refers to beati or blessde paul, the label in the theca refers to s paul.
